Culture for everyone: relaxed morning sessions
Close to Culture and 3 network programmers - L'Auditori, El Mercatt de les Flors, Barcelona Ballet - promote morning activities during the week to make it easier for everyone to access culture.
During the month of January, Close to Culture promotes morning sessions designed for audiences that, due to their characteristics and needs, cannot attend the same functions as the general public. It will do so with the help of three programmers who are part of the network: L'Auditori –with the cycle “La Banda nos Acerca” by the Barcelona Municipal Band-, the Mercat de les Flors and the Barcelona Ballet.
The Municipal Band of Barcelona offered the concert "The Happy Twenties", in the Cocheras de Sants, on Friday, January 13, for social and health entities of the District of Sants. This concert is part of the cycle "La Banda nos Acerca", which was also held on the morning of January 12 at L'Auditori. On January 20 it was the turn of the Barcelona Ballet, which offered a relaxed session of the Nutcracker, at the Casino de la Alianza del Poblenou. Finally, on January 27, the Mercat de les Flors will do a morning screening of the show La Muerte y la Doncella, from the Valencian Institute of Culture.
They are concerts aimed at users of residences for the elderly, specialized care centers for adults with disabilities, community mental health rehabilitation services and other social entities that often have difficulties accessing the usual programming of cultural equipment, mainly due to the schedules, since it is not possible for them to attend shows at night. The morning sessions allow people to enjoy culture who otherwise would not be able to access it. The three sessions will be relaxed, making it easier for people who normally could not attend a show to go, because they will feel comfortable. The Band concert and El Mercat de les Flors show are also open to the general public, making them even more accessible to everyone.
The great success of the 3 sessions, with tickets almost sold out, shows the need to offer culture outside of normal hours, so that everyone can access it. With these proposals, the network takes another step towards an inclusive and accessible culture, going beyond opening the doors.
