Reiner Holzemer retrospective
Every morning in front of his wardrobe, New York designer Thom Browne chooses his battle uniform: a very tight gray suit (shrunken, some would say), white shirt, tie, cardigan, schoolboy shorts, knee-high socks, and brogues. That theatrical allure carries over into his own label, with extravagant stagings that attract clients as varied as Walton Goggins, Michelle Obama, or Demi Moore (he also dressed FC Barcelona, incidentally). Beyond the eccentric proportions and the audacity of his pastiche tailoring, the documentary makes clear Browne’s masterful vision of subversive elegance in these dull, casual times.
