Programme
Despite being the norm in the 20th century, in the 21st century, musical longevity is something of a rarity. Few groups remain active for twenty-five years, with most formations these days being occasional or very short-lived arrangements. The Bad Plus is the exception that proves the rule, above all because the group’s history is extraordinary. Initially formed as a trio of piano, double bass, and drums, the group later changed pianists, and since 2021, it has been a quartet that includes guitar (Ben Monder) and saxophone (Chris Speed). With Reid Anderson and Dave King as the formation’s immutable backbone, they have now added another twist by inviting two maestros—pianist Craig Taborn and saxophonist Chris Potter—to help them pay homage to Keith Jarrett’s legendary 1970s American quartet, which he shared with Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden and Paul Motian.
