PROGRAMME

A new work by José María Sánchez-Verdú, commissioned by Manuel Martínez, will open the concert. The next piece is also by a contemporary composer, a ‘stage poem’ by León Pedro Durán, based on Bodas de sangre by Federico García Lorca.

Dionysiaques, a work written in 1913 by Florent Schmitt, conveys a mystical vision, similar in tone to Igor Stravinsky’s popular The Rite of Spring, which was premiered the same year to scandalised audiences, and is sure to come to mind.

Amando Blanquer’s Gloses II conveys a mythical vision of the cosmos – inspired and enigmatic, with frenetic rhythms and primitive resonances – based on intriguing allusions and making extensive and enthralling use of the resources of the wind and percussion sections.
