The great Requiem by Dvořák, performed by the first time by the OBC. A masterpiece of Romanticism that goes beyond the religious text: a reflection on life, death, the human being and hope, in which music becomes the protagonist.

When Kazushi Ono proposed to play this colossal work in Barcelona he realised that the OBC had never played it, so he decided to resolve the matter quickly. Here we have it in its full version. More than 90 minutes of symphonic-choral music of the highest order, the requiem which, along with those of Mozart, Verdi, Brahms and Fauré, all performed by our Orchestra on several occasions, completes the "requiem” series. In 1890, Dvořák was at the peak of his career and, to fulfil a commission by the Birmingham Festival, he composed this work with no resources spared: a giant of a work that combines quiet, tender fragments with great dramatic explosions.
